So, MSKS and I are heading to the 'Ham in a couple of weeks to visit Claire and go to a fun Christmas party. I can't wait.
Problem: I'm very pale. The simple solution would be to visit the tanning bed a few times, but since my mom's scare this summer, I vowed not to go to tanning beds anymore. I use Jergens Natural Glow, which I really like, but it's just not enough. Heather recently got spray tanned, and loved it. She said it looked fabulous. So I ask my readership 2 questions tonight:
1. Have you ever had a spray tan?
2. What did you think?
I just don't know WHERE to get it done here, or IF it would even be worth it.
Any tanning advice you may have is needed. Thanks.

Mystic tan is great for last minute dates, social events, etc..
It is a little pricey for the whole 2 minutes you are standing there, but you get pretty instant results. Normally it last about 7 days.
You will have to put this lotion on your hands and feet before you step into the booth. PUT ALOT ON!!! If you don't coat your hands in it, you may have a little "staining" (i am using that word loosely". It goes away within a day or two. I used Palm Beach Tan, but I would think most tanning salons offer mystic spray tan.
If you decide to do it, let me know what you think!
Sorry for rambling! :)
I love it - totally worth it! Palm Beach is wonderful - they usually have a special package for three sessions. Just wear old, loose clothes to get it done- because sometimes the "tan" will rub off on your clothes right after.
I like to go the day before the event, so the "orange" wears off.
This party is fun, but it's not a wedding or the event of the year or anything. I would (and am) save the money for something else -you'll still look pretty!! I cannot WAIT to see ya'll!!
LT, I am with Claire on this one. I have had a spray tan before and yes it works and you will look tan, but it's akward and sticky. Maybe I should have applied lotion like your friend Melanie suggested. Nonetheless, I say, save your money for Christmas gifts for Henry and tell every one there to get over it--it's November for cryin' out loud!!
I love the spray tan, but I would go somewhere that uses a person to spray you instead of a booth, much better results. Aveeno makes a great self tanner lotion that lets you dial in the color and it works really well in a few days. The Neutrogena spray on you do yourself works good too. Just some ideas!
As a recovering tan-o-holic, I understand the whole pale thing. I've never had a spray tan, but my niece has. It looked good except on her hands, feet, knees, and elbows. But that was Denver, not StarkVegas. When I tanned for Jessica's wedding I went to Bronzed Bunz. Jamaica is sweet girl who offered to "spray" me but I declined. The fewer people that see my skin--the better. Having said that, I think you will look great no matter what you do.
I love a tan too--BUT--I am all about saving that money for gifts!
I have had the Mystic Tan spray tan several times before for special events, and I've never had any problems with it. I put the white lotion on the BOTTOMS of my hands and feet, and I didn't have any spotting or streaking whatsoever. Don't put it on the TOPS of your hands or feet, or then you really will be spotted. (A friend of mine made that mistake-ha!) The tan looked very natural, and I loved it. I would do it the day before, because it takes it a long time to dry and can rub off on your clothes (Trust me on this one--ruined a shirt or two...) ha!
i had the mystic tan also. i loved how awake and glowing i looked, but i did have some missed spots. i think you know that i am THE whitest person ever, so any missed spots make a huge difference. i am with claire, use the money on a new outfit it the 'ham!
OK - OBVIOUSLY I got sprayed by a girl. I don't trust a machine. Yes, the girl gets up close and personal to your thighs, but it was all worth it. HOWEVER, I have a friend that was sprayed by a different girl at a different place in the 'burg and it was not so great.
Your dress is so pretty - is it worth risking orange fingers?
On a different note, you are WAY tanner than this fair goddess will ever be (unless I visit Carrie again at Bronzed Beach)
Hey LT! Just browsing and came across your tan question. I bought Arbonne's self-tanner this summer and loved it! I have always hated the self-tanners and their orange glow. However, this one was easy to apply and rub in and simply gave a sun-kissed look that I needed while working inside all day.
I do like the mystic tan at palm beach tan however i don't remember there being one in Starkville. Also, it looks best when you have fake'n'baked once or twice...you don't look as orange then but i know you're trying to avoid the bed.
I don't know how modest you are, but I went to Rain or Shine once and had the girl spray me. You go in and you can wear the "paper underwear and bra" they provide. I opted for just wearing the paper underwear and not the bra since my dress was low cut and I didn't want to have that white tan line going across my chest. It really wasn't that awkward...and I never saw that girl again! Before you go, be sure to EXFOLIATE all your dry skin areas very well (elbows, knees, ankles, wrists and hands) Apply the barrier lotion liberally focusing on your hands and feet...dab a little on your knees and elbows too. You can't take a shower for several hours so prob do it Thursday afternoon/evening and you'll have to sleep in the yuckiness. After you take your shower Friday morning be sure to lotion up and keep lotioned up. It seems to last much longer when you stay moisturized. I remember it being around $20 but that was prob 3 years ago!
I know this may be a little Too Much Info, but I tend to ramble! Good luck!
From experience, I would definitely go with a person spraying you rather than a machine..you'll get much better results. and make sure you go somewhere that will adjust their color to your skin tone. oh and if they apply baby powder to your body after you're done, it really helps with the stickiness and the smearing! Hope this helps!
Hey LT- why don't you go to Maxx Tan and let Bucky Bell spray you!
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Just kidding- he's a successful Banker anyway and doesn't even work there. But what a sick thought.
My vote is skip the tan- it's November- no one is supposed to be tan.
You already look tan enough in your most recent pictures. I say save the money and spend it on something you really want or need.
I did it for my wedding (and others) and it was great! I do it anytime I have an event and need a little color. You'll love it!
i got a great spray tan by a girl ( not machine) at rain or shine when i lived there. not sure if that is even still there but i loved it and it lasted about a week.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Tricia's comment made me laugh so hard in my office.
hey friend!!!
i have never been spray tanned but those that i know that get good ones also do it by a person and not a machine....
i used to be obsessed with being tan - now, i am content to be white year round =) no laying out for me anymore =) but i love that being tan makes me feel thinner... why is that?
BUT i agree - i think white skin is prettier anyway - and one of my friends said that even when the girl does it, there is a 'smell' that you have for the first few days - and i don't do smells - even when it is just me smelling it =)
good luck and have fun!
My sister in law says to use Nivea brand self tanner . It does not leave the yucky orange coloring!! She usually gets sprayed, but she said this was just as good( and a lot cheaper!) Good luck!
