Anybody there??
What do you blog about after it's been MONTHS? I have no idea.
A lot has happened during my blog hiatus, but I won't bore you with every detail of every event that has occurred (as I'm usually known to do on the 'ol blog).
I'm a very long-winded person, so there are a million things I want to "say" as I'm returning to the blog, but again- I'll refrain from boring you.
Instead, I think I'm going to just post some pictures- they say more than words anyway, right?
So here you go. A snippet of my life during the past few months. Hopefully after this initial returning-to-the-blog post, it'll be easier for me to get back to the day to day blogging. I hope I'm right!

Why thank you, Heather!
I love stuff like this.

Current nail polish: OPI Mermaid's Tears. LOVE.
Current play list: Quite a variety, actually! A little country, a little contemporary Christian. Loving Miranda Lambert, David Phelps, and Adele right now. I know. So random.
Current read: Whatever my 2nd graders are reading!
Current drink: Diet Coke and coffee for those times I need to find a way to survive my day a little boost and a glass of wine when I want to relax!
Current food: Peanut butter and cheese. But not at the same time.
Current favorite show: It's American Idol time!
I also very much love Dr. Phil, 48 Hours Mystery, Dateline, and Desperate Housewives. Again with my randomness.... I know.
Current wish list: That there was no such thing as cancer. I also wish I could sing.
Current triumphs: I made it through another day, didn't I?
Current Indulgence: Again with the mexican food....
Current blessing: here they are!!:
Current excitement: I'm going shopping at Deep South Pout tomorrow to spend my entire paycheck buy some new "must haves" for spring! Yay!

Here.
Hi.
I'm still here, but just experiencing a little writer's block I guess.
I sit down to blog, and I find myself staring at the screen.
I got nothing.
Maybe I'm going through a blogging slump, or perhaps my life has just suddenly become unexciting.
Don't give up. I'll come up with something soon.
I Promise!

Rice...
This is so cool.
If you're like me, you like "brain games" or anything that gets you thinking and is a little challenging.
Well...how about a brain-stimulating site that also helps others?!
Play around on this site, and know that each question you answer correctly (whether it be about math, language, geography, etc) will help feed the hungry!
Awesome.
You'll love it.

testing 1..2..3..
So.... I just downloaded a new app on my phone called 'Blogger-Droid', and I just wanted to do a test run...
If you're reading this, then I guess it's safe to say that it was a success. Yay.
Blogging from my phone? Yikes. Now I have no more excuses for being a blog-slacker....

Bend in the Road...
Sometimes we come to life's crossroads
And we view what we think is the end.
But God has a much wider vision
And He knows that it's only a bend.
The road will go on and get smoother
And after we've stopped to rest,
The path that lies hidden beyond us
Is often the path that is best.
So rest and relax and grow stronger
Let go and let God share your load,
and have faith in a brighter tomorrow
You've just come to a bend in the road.

Still not over it.
Anyway, it's no surprise that I've been really caught up in the Casey Anthony trial. I've been keeping up with it from the beginning. So, obviously, I sat in my living room with my eyes glued to the TV on July 6th--the day the Casey Anthony verdict was announced.
I told myself that once the verdict was announced, I was going to not blog about it or obsess over it any more. But I just can't do it, people. I've just got to get this all out. I'm so fired up about this.
I was obviously not on the jury, nor do I really know all that goes into being a jury. It's something I hope I never have to experience. I can't help but wonder, though, what they were thinking?!
What mother in their right mind goes 31 days before reporting their missing child?! I'm not a mother, but I'm here to tell you that if either of my nephews were ever missing, it would be reported in seconds--not hours, days, or weeks, but seconds. Not only that, but Casey was spending her nights partying, all while that precious, innocent child is missing?! REALLY? And let's not forget about the nanny that was made up. You know, the one who Casey claimed Caylee was with?! Completely MADE.UP.
No. There's no smoking gun, and not necessarily proof that Casey actually killed her child, but come on people. It absolutely takes no genius to see that Casey absolutey had something to do with her child's murder. Am I wrong?
As a lover of all children, I'm completely sickened that Casey is getting away with this. No, I don't always agree that the death penalty is the way to go when punishing someone for a crime, but I do believe that justice should be served. I'm also a Christian, and realize that it's not our place to judge anyone. Ever. (Romans 12:14-21). But I'm having a tough time with this one. Casey Anthony had something to do with her precious baby girl's death. I just know it.
What more can we do to ensure that the innocent children in this world are being protected and not abused, neglected, or even murdered? Something has to change in our system. I have no idea what or how, but something does need to be done.
You may have seen this petition on facebook. I don't know how "legit" it is, but I think it's fabulous and needs to officially become a law. The petition is to adopt "Caylee's Law," which would make it a felony for a parent or guardian to go a certain amount of time without reporting their child missing. It wouldn't hurt you to sign it if you haven't already. I'm behind this 100%.
Bottom line here: Casey is getting off way too easily with this crime.
What are your thoughts and opinions about this case? Am I overreacting?
It may be a while before I can really get over this one. Children are, after all, my passion in life and they should be loved and protected; not neglected and murdered.
I want to hear your thoughs, and if you think Casey Anthony is innocent, I'd like to hear from you.
Comments welcomed.

Lucky So and So..
I follow her on twitter and read her blog regularly (you absolutely should check it out!).
Several months ago, she took on a challenge (read about it here). I was fascinated! I so enjoyed reading about this experience she had, while wondering how in the world I'd be able to manage such a thing! In fact, I'm quite sure I don't know a single other person who would take on such a task. She now talks publicly about her adventure, and was recently featured on TEDactive (pretty cool, huh?).
Anyway, here's the video of her talking about her experience.
Watch this video, and I guarantee you'll agree that this girl is one of the most intriguing, amazing, and beautiful people you've ever seen! She has a heart of gold and is a total joy to be around.

Scotty, Mason, and a sweet little kitty.

It makes me sad to think that I have to wait until January for the next season. Boo.
On a complete subject change, I came across both of these videos recently. They're both about the recent Alabama tornadoes, and they're both about sweet, loyal pets. Take a look, but be sure the kleenex is handy.

30 things I learned in my 20's...
Well. I'm 30 today. 3 whole decades. Approximately 10,957.266 days old. Yep...it's true.
I was born on March 23, 1981, and as much as I try to pretend that wasn't 30 years ago today, I can't deny the truth. I'm 30. In fact, if you do the math, I feel confident that you would also see that I am indeed 30 years old.
Officially 30.
I'm OK about this, though. Really---I AM!
Can't you tell??
I feel like now, I'm allowed to make an excuse about being really tired, finding a gray hair on my head, an unplanned curve on my body, or a new wrinkle on my face. I am 30 after all...
It's crazy to reflect on the past 10 years of my life. If you had asked me at age 20, what I thought my life would be like at age 30, never EVER would I have said that I would still be single-no kids, teaching in Starkville, and living in my grandparents' home. I don't really know exactly what I thought my life would be like at age 30, but I can tell you that this is not what I envisioned. Am I complaining? Not really. I'm very content with my life right now. Sure, there are things that I'd like to be different, but isn't that only human? God has taken care of me all of my life and I'm not afraid of entering another decade of my life.
I have compiled a list of 30(+1!) things I learned in my 20's. Now, I've learned eleventy bazillion things in my 20's, but here's a very abbreviated list:
1. Stay close to your parents. They probably know you better (and longer!) than anybody else, and more than likely, they're a whole lot wiser than you.
2. Got siblings? Make an effort to stay close to them too. You'll be glad you did.
3. Be a good friend and surround yourself with friends who are real. Best friends are underrated sometimes. I think every girl should have at least 3 best friends. Me? Well, I have about a dozen. Each of them was perfectly placed in my life at the time when they were needed most. Most of the time I'm not really sure what I'd do without them, nor am I sure what I've done to deserve them! Find real friends and choose not to spend your time with people who bring you down.
4. Be trustworthy, but don't trust everybody you meet. I learned this the hard way about 3 years ago. Yes, I'm still a very trustworthy person, but I'm not so easy to trust people anymore. Unfortunately people aren't always what they seem. Choose wisely.
5. It's OK to be single in your 20's (even at 29!)! Sure I'd love to be married with kids, but that's obviously not what God wants for me right now. As I reflect on my 20's though, I think about the many "girls' trips", traveling, last minute shopping trips, etc. that I did in my 20's. Some of these things may not have occurred if I'd had a family. I have no regrets.
6. Be a listener. While it's sometimes great to be there to give advice, sometimes the best thing you can do is listen.
7. Smile at strangers and be nice to people even if you're in a bad mood. Ironically, it can make you feel better as well as the strangers! My dad is a very overly friendly person. He smiles constantly and speaks to everyone he meets. I grew up rolling my eyes at this. When you're 12 years old, you're annoyed at the fact that it takes an hour to get to your table at a restaurant because your dad has to talk to everybody IN SIGHT! As an adult now, I realize that I've actually inherited this character trait! My sisters make so much fun of me, but all I can say to them is, "Um...have you never met our father?" I get this honestly. And to be honest, it makes me feel better to be friendly to others. Go out of your way to be nice sometime; You never know when you're making somebody's day.
8. Try something new. In my 2o's I began running, and now it's one of my most favorite things to do! I hope to trying something else new in my 30s!
9. Set goals. As I mentioned in #8, I enjoy running. At age 27, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and train for a half marathon, and in April of 2009, I successfully completed my first half marathon! One of the best things I've ever done. If there's something you've wanted to do in your life, do it now.
10. Apologize when necessary. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do is apologize for something I've done wrong. It's also one of the best things I've ever had to do. I've learned in "my old age," ;) that apologizing just makes everybody feel better.
11. Avoid using credit cards. Just use them for emergencies if possible!
12. Listen to your mom. Chances are, she knows what she's talking about. And if your mom doesn't seem to have it together, just call my mom. She absolutely knows what she's talking about.
13. Find a job you love. I've been in the working world for nearly 8 years, and I'm very grateful that I have a job that I enjoy. Unfortunately, that's not the case with so many people I know. The truth is, you sometimes spend more time at work than at home, so you should absolutely find something you enjoy.
14. Be yourself and don't worry what others think. I love George Strait, sometimes wear mis-matched clothes, and recently had a green "bedazzled" cast. Do you think I care what's possibly said about me? Umm.. no. It's what makes me...ME!
15. Don't expect your life to be like a romantic comedy. Sure, I'd love for Matthew McConaughey to chase me down on his motorcycle and tell me that he loves me and can't live another day without me, but unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen. Bummer.
16. Get a pet. Single? Live by yourself? GET.A.PET. Period. Even if you're married with children, you still need a pet. Sure, Max is a little--well---neurotic, but he's my buddy and without him, I would be so very lonely!
17. There are a lot of jerks out there. Avoid them. Fortunately, there are a lot of really great guys too. I hope to start avoiding the jerks and eventually finding one of those really good ones. You should find one too.
18. Don't compare yourself to others!!! If you're a female, you probably do this regularly. There's always going to be somebody skinnier, prettier, happier, taller, funnier, richer, etc. That doesn't always make them better. I'm working on this one!
19. Make friends at work! As I mentioned in #13, you may possibly spend more time at work than at home, so you need to make the best of it! As a 2nd grade teacher, there are times when I think I can't make it another day! Thankfully, my teacher friends are there to pick me up and encourage me!
20. Find a random hobby. This is something I didn't do in my 20's, but it's on my to-do list for my 30's! This summer, I plan to read more, learn to cook better, and possibly even learn to sew or knit!
21. Keep your house clean. You'll sleep better at night knowing there aren't dirty dishes in your sink.
22. Don't allow your job to control your life. Like a mentioned earlier, find a job you love, but don't let it become your life. I believe that it's important to find the balance between work life and personal life.
23. Get your priorities in line, and make sure God is at the very top of this list. Period.
24. Exercise regularly. I wasn't an extremely active person until I hit my 20's Exercising several days a week makes you feel better and look better. Find something you love doing--walking your dog, jogging, biking, swimming, etc-and decide to do these things regularly.
25. Go to church. I'm pretty sure this one is self explanatory.
26. If your grandparents are still living, spend a lot of time with them. 2 of my grandparents passed away during my 20's. I was very close to both of them and was fortunate to see them often. Of course now that they're gone, I think about how I wish I had spent even more time with them. I now have one living grandparent who lives in Meridian, and I hope I'm able to make more memories with her in my 30's.
"Grandparents, like heroes, are as necessary to a child's growth as vitamins"-Joyce Allston
27. When it comes to dating and marriage, don't settle for less than you deserve. While I am unmarried, I dated several guys in my 20's. Some of them were great guys, but I'm so very happy that none of them ended in marriage, especially at the time. I learned a lot about myself during those relationships, and I have become more aware of what I desire and deserve in a life-long mate. Thank God I didn't get married just to be married.
28. Don't allow stress to dominate your life. Period.
29. Travel. No, I'm not a world traveler, and I don't plan long, extravagant vacations. I do, however, plan yearly trips to the beach and regular trips to visit my friends (Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, etc.). I'm so glad to have these times with my dear friends!
30. DON'T GO TO TANNING BEDS!! I was never a really regular tanning bed goer, but I did go some during my 20's. I blame all of my skin irregularites on tanning beds. I'm now a regular sunscreen-wearer and for a little skin color I use Jergens Natural Glow (There are way worse things in life than having fair skin!).
+1:
31. Count your blessings. There are a lot of things in my life that I haven't figured out yet (after all, I'm only 30!:) ), but I do realize that I've got a pretty good life. I'm grateful for all that God has provided for me and shown me in my 30 years of life!
What are some things you've learned in the past 10 years of your life?
Do any of you "old people" have any advice for a new 30 year old? :)

poor.pitiful.me.
When it rains it pours, right?
In addition to the lovely green cast on my broken foot, I also decided that it was necessary to develop strep throat last week. And let me tell you something folks, it's been a doozie. I mean...H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E!!!
This is pretty much what I've looked like since Thursday:
I came home early from school on Thursday, took Friday off, and will be off tomorrow too. I honestly don't think I've been this sick in years. I don't even remember being alive on Friday. In fact, I think I thought I was dead.
I came home early from school on Thursday, took Friday off, and will be off tomorrow too. I honestly don't think I've been this sick in years. I don't even remember being alive on Friday. In fact, I think I thought I was dead. I'm happy to say that as of today I feel like I'm back among the land of the living. I was encouraged today when I found that I was able to swallow something without feeling like there were 800 knives in my throat. It also felt good to wash my hair today (even though I had to follow it up with a nap). Sometimes it's the little things in life that make me the happiest, you know? And right now I'm just happy to not be dead.
On a happy note, can I just tell you how glad I am to live in the same town as my parents? I always love being near them, but for some reason when I'm sick, all I can think is, "I want my mom!" Yep. Sweet Dad made some of his yummy chicken and rice soup yesterday, and mom brought me smoothies and ice cream all weekend. Oh, and she also brought cold, wet cloths for my feverish forehead. She always folds them best and gets them the perfect temperature. I know...I'm so very spoiled.
Also, I must brag on my furry child. He absolutely has not left my side the entire time I've been sick. If I stayed in bed for 20 hours straight, then he stayed right next to me for 20 hours straight (he went an extra long time without eating or "going outside"). Seriously--that's love. I'm not quite convinced that a man will ever love me as much as this little guy! :)
I'm definitely on the upward slope of getting well, which really excites me, because in just a few short days, my sisters and cousin are taking me to NOLA for my 30th birthday!
I'm just so excited! It's been years since I've been there and I'm looking forward to spending a few days there with 3 of my favorite people.
I'm just so excited! It's been years since I've been there and I'm looking forward to spending a few days there with 3 of my favorite people. What do you like to do when you're there?
Oh, and in case you're wondering, I'm not getting my cast off in time for my trip (bummer!), but I refuse to let it rain on my parade! Stay tuned to find out how I plan on making the best of a fractured foot in New Orleans!

BeDazzle.
Please tell me you know about the BeDazzler.
I'm pretty sure I wanted one when I was about 8....didn't you?
True, I never owned one of these, but I think I've reverted back to my childhood a little. Don't worry--I didn't go out and buy a BeDazzler, but I do feel a little "BeDazzled" right now.

Well, I truly believe that people should never underestimate the creativity of elementary teachers. Here's what we can do:
My casted foot before:

And my casted foot after:
(My students pretty much think this is the coolest thing ever).
Please let me know if you're ever "casted," and my teacher friends and I would be happy to come and help you get BeDazzled.Monday, February 14, 2011
no phone zone.
Question: Do you text while driving?
I do did.
That was...until I saw this:
Goodness gracious that was scary, wasn't it? Someone posted this on facebook not too long ago. I watched it and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
After seeing it, I immediately clicked here and signed Oprah's "No Phone Zone" pledge. Won't you sign too?
Since then, when I think about texting while driving, all I have to do is think about that video. It's just not worth it.

For guys only...
Not that I really think that there are a slew of males who read my blog, but if you are a male and you're clueless as to what to get your honey for Valentine's Day, this post is for you!
Are you excited? I thought so.
Now, guys, let's suppose you've got $100 that you're wanting to spend on your gal. I've compiled a small list of things that you should not buy:
1. Goodness gracious, please do NOT spend $99.99 on this velour footie/hoodie. Don't get me wrong--it looks super cozy and comfy, but for that price?? Seriously? Just don't do it. If she's a laid back, comfy kind of gal, head to Target or Old Navy and get her some cute pj pants for $15. She'll probably like them better anyway.
Note: These said pj pants should probably not be the only thing you should get her for Valentine's Day though...
2. Want to guess how much this "Playbear Bunny" costs?
You guessed it!...$99.99. I'll admit this teddy bear company is very creative (you really should take a look at some of them!), but I just can't imagine how I would react if I received a $100 teddy bear (dressed like a playboy bunny) from my significant other.3. OK. I know what you're thinking about this one: "Girls LOVE chocolate!" And, yes, most of us do love chocolate. And to be honest, this box of chocolates looks divine to me, but this "divine looking" box 'o chocolates costs nearly $80!
If your girl is a fan of chocolate, go to a local bakery and get her a small box of chocolate covered strawberries or a couple of truffles. You'll save money (which can be used on something else for her!), she'll love it, and she won't feel 15 lbs heavier after indulging. (Another thought: You could make her something sweet! That would be meaningful and yummy!).4. Now. If I have to go into the reasons why you should not buy your valentine an oversized teddy bear, then we have a bigger problem than I thought. Teddy bears like this one...
...can cost $200. Yes. $200. Also, where in the world do you keep a teddy bear that size? Seriously guys, steer clear of the oversized stuffed animals.I bet I know what you're thinking now: "OK, LT! You're so wise, and you've guided me through the what-not-to-buys, but I'm still hanging here! What DO I buy for my honey?"
Well, here you go...
If you're wanting to spend $100 or less on your girl, here are a few ideas that come to mind:
1. Gift cards. I know they're not always fun to give, but they're great to receive! You could get her a gift card for a massage, pedicure, manicure, spa, boutique, etc...
2. Jewelry. What girl doesn't like jewelry, right? Perhaps you should take her sister or best friend to shop with you for this, though. :)
3. FLOWERS. Yes. They're cliche' and I'd be careful if you decide to go this route. Some girls don't love receiving flowers because it's so common, they can get a little pricey, and well, they eventually die. But I, for one, LOOOVE flowers and could never get tired of receiving them! I don't think you have to spend an arm and a leg, either. And if you want to make it a little more personal, don't just order red roses because it's Valentine's Day. Send a bouquet of her favorite flowers (Tulips?..which are my personal fave!, daisies?).
4. Make her something. Buy a small album, scrapbook, etc., fill it with pictures of the 2 of you, and write in it. If you want to score big points with your girl, create an book of "100 things I love about you" and in addition to filling it with pictures, you could include a list of why you love her so. I know for me, I'd much rather you spend your time than your money on a gift.
